custom domain transfer

  I recently deleted my custom domain name and unsubscribed from my premium plan, losing the custom domain. Now if I try to use the domain name with another host, it’s still used by wordpress (even though I no longer have access to it). Is there any way I can regain access to it?

  Hey there,

  If you’re wanting to use your domain at a different host, you should never cancel it at your current host – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

  If you recently registered the domain, you have to wait 60 days before you are able to transfer your domain to a different host, but in the meantime, you can use the domain with your site by pointing the nameservers over to your new host:

  I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.

  Hello darnelldibbles,
  I made the same mistake, thinking that cancelling my Domain name and simply registering at a different host would be easier than transferring. Obviously, I was wrong. Is there any possibility you help me get my domain back as well?

  We have had the free plan this whole time and simply paid for the domain name separate. When I go into my wordpress account attempting to simply add it back, it tells me the domain name is taken (though I suspect it’s simply because it hasn’t been long since I cancelled it).
