Custom Domain URL Redirect Loop / NameCheap DNS
-
Hi,
I’m trying to get my custom domain “ThatThingYouLike.com” to act as the primary domain for ThatThingYouLike.wordpress.com. The site passes the Domain Helper verification, but when I set the custom domain as the primary, the site won’t load. Instead, I get this persistent URL Redirect Error:
“The webpage at http://thatthingyoulike.wordpress.com/ has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.”
Clearing cookies and the cache does nothing to resolve the problem. According to the Domain Helper, I’ve successfully added the servers to my NameCheap domain profile. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to resolve this – help!
Also, I’m paying for the custom domain registration – is there another avenue through which I can contact WordPress support?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
An infinite redirect loop like you experienced is when a newly purchased domain has it’s nameservers changed. It takes anywhere from 2-48 hours for the new nameservers to propagate across the internet. Since you registered it with NameCheap and then changed the DNS to point to WordPress.com, it took some time for everything to sort itself out.
I switched your primary domain to “thatthingyoulike.com” and the redirect seems to have been resolved.
If you still see the redirect, you may need to clear your browser cache one more time to get the new nameserver information.
But to verify, this is your site currently:

Sincere thanks! I’m not sure why it was still showing me the error after a week, but I appreciate it getting resolved so quickly. Looks good now!
Best,
