Custom domain with 'personal' plan
-
I’ve set up a wordpress blog using a free plan, and now I’d like to use a custom domain (e.g. mywebsite.co.uk). I’ve searched for available domains, but the only options are for domains with the ‘premium’ plan, there aren’t any options for buying a domain with the ‘personal’ plan. How do I buy a domain with the ‘personal’ plan?

Upgrade to the Personal plan first and then add the custom domain using the free domain credit you will be provided with. To upgrade a free WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/plans

Thanks magic robot! Do you know if there are any restrictions on what type of domain I can have? Is there a reason why any of the options I’m searching for are only available on the premium plan or is this just wordpress’ recommended plan?

The “default” is the Premium plan but if your main requirement is a custom domain name and you don’t need advanced CSS then the Personal plan works fine.
PS: I don’t think you can register a .co.uk extension at WordPress.com I think if that was what you required you’d have to buy it elsewhere and map it to a WordPress.com site. -
Hi there,
Do you know if there are any restrictions on what type of domain I can have?
Domain providers need to be accredited for a particular domain before they can offer it for registration. You can find the domains we currently support here:
If we don’t support a domain you want, you can still register it elsewhere and then map it here as @themagicrobot also mentioned above:
