Custom email

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I’m trying to set up an email address to go with my custom domain, however when I go into the email tab on my custom domain edit, I get the following error message:

‘This domain currently has custom mail servers defined in its DNS settings. This means that WordPress.com Email Forwarding is not available for this domain, and that you should manage your email with your email provider.’

I’m not sure how I go about changing this so that I can add an email using my domain name? I was hoping for something like charlie [at] smallfishbipondblog [dot] com if possible!

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Howdy Charlie!

There are two options for setting up and email address with your account:

    1. You can setup email forwarding following the instructions here:

      http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding/

In this scenario, email to your custom address ((email visible only to moderators and staff) for example) would be forwarded to an address you already own (like a Gmail address for instance).

    2. You can add a custom email address through a third-party as explained here:

      http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/

In this scenario, you would be setting up a separate address with a separate inbox

Currently, it looks like you have email records for option #2 explained above. While those records are in place, you cannot use option #1. Have you previously setup a custom email address with a third party service like Google Apps?
