I want to use this custom email to:
1. receive blog email from readers.
2. send <thanks for following my blog> emailsThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy Lon,
You have two options regarding creating a custom email address for your domain.
- You can setup email forwarding following the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding/
In this scenario, email to your custom address ((email visible only to moderators and staff) for example) would be forwarded to an address you already own (like a Gmail address for instance).
- You can add a custom email address through a third-party as explained here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/In this scenario, you would be setting up a separate address with a separate inbox
Does that help to explain the options? Please let me know if you need anything else!

Hi Lon,
The main difference would be whether you want a dedicated email inbox for the custom email address.
If you setup email forwarding, emails to (email visible only to moderators and staff) would be directed to the email address of your choosing (like a Gmail address). The emails to this address would get mixed in with your regular Gmail inbox. However, you could still specify the outgoing email (so email replies appear as though they’re coming from (email visible only to moderators and staff) not your Gmail address). This option offers a little bit less flexibility.
Through creating a separate email address with a third-party service, you will effectively create a completely separate email inbox. This can be good in that it separates your site emails from your regular inboxes. However, it requires a bit more setup as you will need to input email records into your domain through WordPress.com (I can explain that part).
Either option can work. It just really depends on how separate you want your new email to be.
