Custom Header

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

we are trying to put in a custom header in our blog, we use photobucket but it will not except the URL from photobucket. It is a .jpeg file also, can you shed some light on this for me?

what theme are you using? thr are many themes that allow direct uploads for your custom image without using a url reference. try those themes instead?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using Regulus, so what your saing some do not allow URL reference?

  • Unknown's avatar

Regulus allows for a URL reference, but there’s another workaround:

    • Create new post
    • Upload header image in that post
    • Send to editor (make sure you don’t get the code for the thumbnail)
    • copy only the “img src” information; dump all extraneous “id=” and junk at the end.
    • don’t post that post, but go directly to your image header page and paste in the code.

    Should work.

Thanks a bunch will give it a go

Everytime I try to upload any image, it’s picture quality degrades. I’m trying to upload a a crystal clear picture and after uploading it shows a blurred & not vry clear image. Is there a any workaround for this?

  • Unknown's avatar

You can save it as a gif rather than as a jpg and the clarity may improve. It does on mine.

Thanks for replying. But your suggestion did not help. It shows the same unclear picture when uploaded. Normally the picture is even more clear then your header image.
Not sure whether WP compresses it or what?

  • Unknown's avatar

It shouldn’t be compressing it. And, since it’s still 125kb in size, I don’t think it is. That’s awefully big for that small of a file. Especially since it’s a *.jpg. At most, it should be 15kb.

Could you post it somewhere as a *.png or *.gif please? Actually sounds more like something’s up with the program you’re using and hos it’s compressing it into a *.jpg.

Picture I’m trying to upload is 33kb. With width=932 and height=165. Do you think it should be a problem of size or something else?

  • Unknown's avatar

Excuse me, I was looking at the other header.

Size maybe an issue as WP is having to compress the dementions to fit it into that header. Another issue might be though that, for some reason you’re working with a *.png and giving it a filename as a *.gif. (Open up the graphic in WordPad and read the first two lines. You’ll see the format tag)

    Arghhh…

What are the width and height limits for header image on Blix theme?

And FYI I’m not using .png file as .gif. It was .bmp file which was converted to .jpg & then later to .gif[on suggested by 1 member on forum] but I can see the clear picture in jpeg format too on a hosted website. Provide me with your emailI will send you the link. I do not want to my picture to be used by any other bloggers here.

First line of your image -> ‰PNG :)

Blix is 690*115 pixels in size.

(Just for reference in case anyone else comes across this thread, the list of current header image file sizes are found here.)

Please don’t convert from *.jpg to *.gif. That may be the issue. It doesn’t work which maybe the issue here. You lose data when you compress a file into a *.jpg and by going back to a *.gif, the image program is faking the data to fill it in. That’s probably why it looks poor. (And if I catch the person who suggested that…)

I still want to know why that other file is 125kb in size though. That’s huge for that tiny picture.

    @drmike
No! NO! Not the whacking – anything but the whacking [she pleaded]. By way of explanation someone else suggested this a month ago and I fell for it. So do you recommend that I now save all the headers I changed from jpg to gif back again [she asked sadly]?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks for the input.
As you did not provide the email. I’m taking the risk & providing the link to picture http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b54/chillingdk/weblink/1.jpg so that you can tell me what should I do to get this clarity in my blog header.

    Thank you once again.

I’m just letting you know that it’s not likely that drmike will be back until tomorrow sometime in the afternoon his time (east coast of the US).

Friendly reminder that I’m not staff nor paid for this. I just help out here. Last time I put my email into a post, I got over 3 dozen emails in under 24 hours. Everyone of those got a link back tot eh forums and the FAQ blog. :)

It’s going to have to be tomorrow. I’m not on a PC where I can do photo editing or even look at a graphic closely. browser only here.

Someone please bump this tomorrow morning.
