Custom Header

Is anyone else having trouble with the custom header. It states ‘You can upload a custom header image to be shown at the top of your site instead of the default one. On the next screen you will be able to crop the image. Images of exactly 760 × 190 pixels will be used as-is. “
My images is 760×189 and it is still making me crop and distorting my picture if I do. This is getting really annoying please help!

I have the default header up now because it keeps doing the distortion of my original image

What I would do is go into my Media Library and delete earlier versions of the image for the header. Then I would use an offline image editor to optimize and presize another image and give it a completely different name than the others had, and I’d try uploading it again.

I tried that too and am having no luck at all it still wants me to crop it smaller but the size is correct. when I upload the same image to my media it shows it’s 760×189 but I can’t assign the header from my media

yeah i’m getting frustrated because before christmas I had an image and it worked fine but didn’t update during christmas so now I wanted a less christmasy header.
it doesn’t matter what I do it still makes me crop and then it’s a distorted mess and I’m very picky about the images I create, and once i crop it it looks like crap. I’ve tried deleting my browser history and cache hoping that would help and nothing :/ ugh

The header image is 780 by 189.Two different sizes! I’m flagging this thread for Theme Staff attention.

Thanks for the help it’s just aggrevating to be within pixel guidelines and still not have it work properly …

I noticed the 2 different sizes but it’s trying to resize my width not my height that’s where it gets frustrating

I suggest that you make two images according to the two sizes above and try to upload each one. Have you tried that?

The image has to be the exact dimensions in both directions or it will require you to crop so that the system can maintain the proportions.
The image size differences have been around for a while, and here is another one for you. The actual size of the original header image is 806 x 189.
The actual opening for the header image is 760px. The width of the white area behind the main content/header/etc., is 780px.

that worked… very strange considering last time it was 760×189 and worked fine.
