Custom Header disappeared!

  • Unknown's avatar

    I modified my CSS (to widen the columns) and although I succeeded, I found that my custom header disappeared. I restored the original CSS, but the header is still missing. So I tried a different theme, and I still cannot manage to get the custom header to return. Is anyone else having this problem currently (Saturday morning, around 1030 EST)? If not, then has anyone had this issue before, and how dod you resolve it? (I’ve sent a request to support, but I know from past experience that it could take a while to hear back from them, so I think you guys are my best bet right now!)

    Thanks in Advance!

    Oh, wow – it just came back all by itself. Thanks anyway!

    Not to worry.

    Anytime you make the first change to the CSS, the header image vanishes. All you have to do to restore is insert its complete url in your stylesheet in the appropriate place.

    Oh, thank you! I just went back to my original theme, and the header was still missing, so I will try it with the full URL in the CSS. Thanks so much!

    Um, actually – that didn’t seem to help. Perhaps I’m putting the URL in the wrong place in the CSS? I placed it here:

    #header {
    background:url(‘pfs-logo-banner7006.jpg’) no-repeat bottom center;
    border:none;
    height:200px;
    margin:0;
    padding:0;
    }

    (The text above does include the actual URL for the image.)

    Am I doing it wrong? If so, andy guidance is much appreciated! :-)

    Yes, you changed it in the wrong place. Edit the middle line as I’ve indicted. It’s always a good idea to either make a copy of what you’re changing or remark it out using /* and */

    body { background: url(images/bg.jpg) repeat-x top center fixed; border: none; }
    #header { background: url(http://yoururlandfilename.jpg); }
    #sidebar { background: url(images/sidebar.gif) repeat-y top left; border: none; }

    Btw, there is no official support here for CSS, just volunteers who might or might not be around if or when you need help. Consulting the tutorials in the sticky and at the bottom of the CSS editor is strongly encouraged.

    I just customized my custom header, yet the original dream header still appears on my website. What shall I do?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ok- well it changed. Took a while, after 4 tries but it worked. I’m just fooling around with the custom header right now. A little buggy, but it catches up after a while.

    does anyone know why i can’t crop the customm header image that i uploaded? as a result, my header on my page is a blank background

  • Unknown's avatar

    If you’ve got the Custom CSS upgrade, you have to crop it before uploading it.

    If you don’t have the upgrade, then it’s because the cropper is broken lately. Report it to staff via the Contact Support button on your dashboard.

    I am having the same problem with the cropper. I have sent WP and email. Haven’t heard back yet.

    @meaningfulzero & targo1: Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here – or link your nickname to your blog as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know. We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

    my custom header also disappeared. When I tried to use a new theme… the custom header appeared in the preview but not on my page when activated. When I tried out new themes my custom header and blog had no “right side”… What do I need to do?
