Custom Header image
-
I want to change my header image. Original image was est. 2000 x 1800 pixels (too big). I have resized it many times, all the way down to 400 x 200 (est) pixels, but when I get to the crop option, it only allows half of the image to show. It’s no different than when I attempted with the originally sized image.
Also, it only allows croping vertically, not horizontally.
Tried it over several days, deleting previously used images so that they don’t somehow interfere with the newest version.
Given the current header, I was able to make it work before, but I can’t get it to do it again.
What am I doing wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Nishita has a couple of different layout options and it appears that even with the narrower “blog” option, which is what you are using, the suggested header size is 1024 pixels wide x 295 pixels high. Have you tried uploading a pre-sized image?

I creating historical blog that contains description of few time ranges. I need to use few header image depending on the page that is currently displayed (different page for every time range within one blog). Is that possible in WordPress? I found the option that allows me to use random header image from defined bank of images but this not what I expected to find, I need to control what image currently is on the top. Only one idea is to use different blog adress for each time range, where each of them have different header image, but this approach seems to be ridiculous in my opinion. Is any other solution for that?

I’ve pre-sized the image many times. Even setting it to 1024×295, which distorts it. Even went down to (dont’ remember the exact pixels) but in the 400 x 200 (using scale) range just to reach the lower number, while keeping the image balanced. With the smallest size, I can somewhat make it work, but then the cropping won’t allow horizontal cropping (to get rid of the empty space to the right and left of the image) without simultaneous vertical cropping.
The original header was re-sized down to 448 x 268 and it worked. Resizing the new header image to the exact same size (a little distorted) gets me the crop box which will only allow half of the image (vertically), but horizontally, it’s fine.
Oh, the frustration!!!

@runamuckranch-I’ve tagged this for a staff reply. Please be patient while waiting because they have a bit of a backlog.
I’ve not been able to reproduce this in Chrome36/Win7Pro so please let us know what browser and OS you are using.
@azielik-we can’t do anything without a link to the site you need help with.

The image will always be adjusted to fit width of the theme, it won’t allow a narrower image.
The theme supports by default an image of 1024 × 295 pixels, so try various sizes to your preference with a width of 1024 pixels.

The problem was, the new image was pretty much the same as the old one… it was the same Jeep back with different stickers. The new one was resized exactly (though it looked a little distorted because it wasn’t exactly the same) to the size of the last one, which worked fine. But the Word press crop tool would only allow half of the image vertically. It was OK with the horizontal – the empty space was created when I made the image even smaller – but had the same vertical crop problem.
Ended up changing the theme to make the image work. (New theme has similar image parameters as previous theme, but I can use entire re-sized image). Problem is, now other things don’t work. Grrrr!
