Custom header not appearing
-
My custom header will not appear. I have tried changing the size of the image in an outside editing program to cut out possible cropping problems, however it still is not appearing.
Can anyone help please?
My blog is http://theregatta.wordpress.com
The image that I am trying to upload for my header is a jpg file.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The source code of your page shows that the one you’ve tried to upload is cropped, which won’t work. Have you really tried to upload a 700×200 copy? Also, better rename it before trying again.

I’m having the same problem for the Cutline theme, I uploaded my image from a thumbnail, prompts a slight cropping, I get the Header Complete only to find a little white box with a red x.

Thanks!

Cropping doesn’t work. You need to upload an image in the proper dimensions (770×140 px).

done this – DOES NOT WORK. The problem is in the CSS – it does not revert to new header settings. Surely a server reset is required?! Can wordpress post a positive outcome on this – there are a number of threads on this with no resolution.

@thomastolkien: Please don’t post about the same thing everywhere. You got your answer here:

The same thing is happening to me. When I upload the image, which is definitely in the correct size, it doesn’t appear. All I get is a large blue block where the uploaded image is supposed to be. I tried everything, reverting to default, etc. etc. but it still doesn’t work.

I looked for #headerimage in the original CSS if the theme and it’s not there. I wouldn’t mind but it happens no matter what theme with custom header I choose! It never displays.
-
@enochsvision, first off, the CSS for each theme is different. The header might be under header in one, and headerimage in another and headerimg in another, and eat_bananas in yet another. It is all up to the theme designer and how many magic mushrooms they have ingested.
You have this in your custom CSS
#header { background:#3371A3 none repeat scroll 0 0; height:200px; margin:0; padding:0; position:relative; }Notice in the background declaration, after the color code, there is “none?” You have not declared a header. Replace “none” with
url(full_url_to_your_header_image) -
Thank you! next time I will know better. What I should have done is delete everything in the edit box and choose “Add this to the stylesheet” instead of “Replace…” I put only the following in the box and saved it and everything looked great. Obviously, the less I mess with the better off I am.
#header {
background:#3371A3 url(http://magicandjewel.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/magic-and-jewel-hdr26.jpg) repeat scroll 0 0;
height:200px;
margin:0;
padding:0;
position:relative;Thanks again for the great technical support.

You’re welcome.
I always use the “add to existing…” since it makes it so much easier to keep track of what I have changed.
-
Thanks for all the support. If the problem is in the cropping, then I have a very dumb question to ask… (grins sheepishly) How do I crop my image so that it’s the right size before I upload it, because obviously what I was doing before wasn’t working!
-
Oops, I just noticed that I replied to my previous post on my other user account. I am also trapezeartist. Sorry.
-
You edit it using an image editing application. If you cannot figure out how, you can upload the image in your media library, paste its URL here and I’ll do it for you.

Wow! It worked!!!! I figured out that my problem earlier was that I had specified the resize size, but the instead of cropping the bits off that weren’t the right size, the computer automatically changed my resize so that my image would resize in proportion. So now I know that I have to resize and crop the picture!
Thank you very, very much for all your help.
Earlier you suggested that I rename my image before trying again. What would be a better sort of name? What was wrong with the name?
-
If you don’t rename the picture, then wordpress will: the software adds a number to the name. Better to just give it a new descriptive name yourself.
