Custom Header Specs

  Hello,
  I love love love wordpress.com! I am working with a graphic designer to create a custom header for my blog. What size image should I have created? I am just wanting to check on this because I know when I upload an image I am only able to select part of it as the header.
  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
