Custom headers
-
Hello,
I am trying to upload a custom header to my free wordpress.com site.
I have used the themes detailed here http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/#supported-themes but none of them seem to allow custom headers.
Please help.
Thanks,
Susan

Have you attempted to upload them with no success? What is is happening when you try to upload?
Try resizing your header to the exact size that your theme requires before uploading it. That might be the issue.
-
Hello,
Thank you – no, I just don’t even have the option to upload a header. I was wondering if it’s because wordpress want you to pay? The site I’m building is for a public sector organisation, and funding is pretty thin on the ground.

It says on the support page that you do not need to have a premium upgrade, just as long as you are using one of the supported themes listed. Is there one in particular you are attempting to use?
-
That page was my first port of call – I have tried numerous of the listed themes and none of them allow a custom header upload. It’s quite frustrating.
The theme I am working with just now is the Expound theme.
-
Okay – walk me through this. I’m trying to figure out what you are seeing/or not seeing
You go to your dashboard. You click on the appearance tab and then you don’t see ‘header’ as an option? Or you see header as an option, but when you click there, there is no option to upload a custom image?
-
Yup, the second thing. I can either choose the header that comes with the theme or nothing. No option to upload. This has happened on every theme I have tried from that list.
I use a free wordpress.com site for personal use, and I was able (in the past) to upload a custom header to that, so I tried using that theme too – still no joy.
I have googled a bit and see that others are having this problem too. I wonder if it’s a change in wordpress policy?

Hmmm….I have heard of many people having uploading problems, but I have not encountered someone not even having the option to upload. When I choose the header tab, I have the option to choose an image from my computer or choose an option from the media library. You have neither option? If you have the media library option, at least you can upload load the picture that way to access it.
Have you tried using a different browser?

What I posted is relevant and on point. I am waiting for hendersonsusan to respond to what I posted so no more time is wasted on speculation and nonproductive back and forth posts here.

Apologies for “speculating”.
I am logged in as an admin, and have tried using both IE and Chrome.
I am about to go home, and will work through your full list of suggestions this evening.
-
Hi there,
IE and Chrome are meaningless to us without the version numbers. Please get back to us on this. -
I apologize. If I saw your thorough post on the subject, I would not have posted what I did. Just trying to help.
-
I am at home now, and I can do this on my own computer.
Thank you for your help, and apologies for wasting your time.

Hi there. Of course, you are trying to help and that’s a good thing. :)@hendersonsusan
That’s good news. :) Do be aware that it was not not volunteer time that I was concerned about. It was your time I was concerned about. So glad to hear you have resolved this using your own computer. Best wishes with your blog.On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/
The support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also on the bottom of your Admin page.
