Custom html block not working

  • Unknown's avatar

I have been trying to upload a code to the Custom HTML block. I have double-checked the code but I can not get the preview to upload or for the codes image to be seen on the preview page. This is an affiliate link that I am trying to link and is the first time I have tried to use the custom HTML code on this site. I have used it on many other sites with no problems. Can you help me figure out why the Custom HTML Block does not seem to be working?

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi rooseveltsride,

Can you tell me where exactly you placed the code, then I can help you in figuring out the problem. Also, check the code you have placed uses “https”.

    Thanks and Regards

    Hello,
Yes, I am using the custom HTML block. When the block pops up I copy and paste it directly into the block within my blog post.

Here is a screenshot of the custom HTML block and code I was pasting in.

Then when I click the preview button nothing comes up. Nothing shows up for when I do the full blog post preview.

    Hi rooseveltsride,

Unfortunately, iframes are not supported on WordPress.com for security reasons, so if you put the iframe on your post/page, only a hyperlink will be displayed.

For more information on what code is and is not allowed, please visit the support page:

    Thanks and Regards

    Hello,

I have used this affiliate link code on another site without issue that I believe is set up the same. I believe we are also on the WordPress.org site not wordpress.com.

    Thanks

  • Hi @rooseveltsride

If you are on a self-hosted WordPress site (which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.) then yes that kind of iframe code will work without issue.

On WordPress.com that code can also be made to work, but not on free sites such as the one you have on your account. However, you can gain the ability to upload any plugin or theme “designed for WordPress” as well as edit source code, add iframe embeds, etc. by upgrading to our Business plan, which is offered in both monthly and annual billing options.

Learn more about our WordPress.com Business Plan here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Hello,

We are hosted on Bluehost but the custom HTML code blocks are not working. I have tried clearing the cashes, double-checking the code, logging out and logging back in, changing the theme, and a few other things suggested on other forms but the code block is still not working on my wordpress.org site.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for clarifying. In this case we can’t help directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed business hosting. As a result we don’t have the ability to take a closer look at your site.

Instead your host (Bluehost) uses the open-source variant of the WordPress platform which functions differently than what we offer here on WordPress.com. The good news is that help is definitely available for the WordPress variant your site is using. You can find that at the open-source WordPress forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting/

Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
