custom links, widgets and opening them in a new tab

Strangely there used to be a little tick box when adding either a New Custom Link page in the header menu and also when adding a picture in a widget to allow the custom link to open in a new window or tab when clicked upon.

Since when has this feature been disabled and why?

I have a couple of picture widgets on our blog with custom links plus a couple of custom links in my menu that I would like to open in a new tab, there used to be an option to tick a little box on creation that would allow such links to open in a new tab or window.

So whats the best way to approach this now?

    Thanks

    1) See this post of mine, under “Item that opens in a new browser window/tab”:

    2) The Image widget never had this option. For image links that open in a new window or tab you need a Text widget. Basic coding here:

    Hi justpi

    1) worked a treat – thanks

    2) Thanks but having an issue with the Height, I have used the same pics same height and width but the have knocked a title out of alignment on my footer images :-(

    You’re welcome.

    a) Which title?
    b) If you’re talking about the three large images, they are not “same height and width”: the first is 10 pixels wider than the other two, the third is a few pixels shorter than the other two.
    c) The first two of these are distorted, and the third one is blown up. Are these intentional?
    d) The original dimensions of all the six images are different than the displayed ones. This way you lose quality. For best results you should use an image editing application to resize them to the desired pixel dimensions, and upload and insert these versions in real size. The width of each footer area in 2010 is 220 pixels.
    e) Why on earth are you using separate widgets for the titles?

    Thanks justpi

I have figured it out now, thank you once again for your help.
