custom menu link to external app on phone

Hi, I currently have my navigation menu set up to link to my facebook page as well as my instagram. I’d like them to launch their respectives apps when the link is being used on a phone instead of going to their mobile sites. I’ve been researching deeplinks and seo ultimate for hours and can’t figure this out! When I try to put in the fb:// in the custom menu link editor, it saves it and then the link disappears. Am I missing something? Any help greatly appreciated!
