custom menu / pages function not letting me add new options.
-
I am trying to build a menu for my dashboard. I was abe to create some pages and custom, but then it got mixed up, the ‘blog’ part of my site then linked to the ‘about us’ bit and didn;t give me an option to change that. the posts would not show. I feel like I need to clear everything then start again. I have content ready to go but cannot build the right menu! I have watched tutorials where it shows the ability to add different menu items from the left hand menu in appearance > menu… but this doesnt correlate to what I can actually see.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I think your tried to create a static front page, without creating a page for posts to be displayed on.
By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Note that you can create a custom menu and add the dynamic Categories pages to it and order then the way you want to. This guide will walk you through how to create category pages for your blog, to display groupings of similar posts on pages other than your front page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/
To do that you have to be crustal clear on the differences between Posts and Pages. Post vs. Page http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(1) There is only one page we can post to in any blog.
(2) The static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ we bloggers create do not automatically update.Create a custom menu

Add dynamic categories and sub-categories pages to it

Create order and sub-menus (dropdowns) -
Hey Thank you for the help. I did have a static first page and a Blog page with all the posts – that concept I understand. The issue I’m having is actually creating a menu on the nav bar so that I can click on the various pages – I would like there to be ‘about us’ ‘blog’ ‘credits’ and ‘contact’ …. so all are static bar ‘blog’. I have the pages ready and posts have been created to go on the blog. But now when I go to appearance > menu, I cant add the different links to each page. Hope I am explaining correctly. Where it says you can check boxes and create, eg ‘about me’ – there are no check boxes! There were but when I tried to edit them I couldn;t get them back. Now I’m stuc with one page and no menu to change page!
