Custom Ping / Update Services in WordPress.com Unavailable?

  I have a WordPress installation on my own hosting that I have been using, and wanted to try out the offering at WordPress.com, assuming it would have all the same features. I don’t, however, see the option for customizing the “Update Services” in the blog at wordpress.com (typically under options->writing). Is this feature not provided for some reason or has it been moved? Thanks

  Ummm, from what I understand my question is directly related to the wp-MU platform and NOT the .org software (though my question contains some overlap for clarification). Though if they are considered completely separate, perhaps discussing one in reference to another doesn’t make sense.

  I’ll rephrase: Does the wp-MU multiuser platform hosted by wordpress.com allow for setting custom update services (i.e. other than just ping-o-matic)?

  {redfaced} My apologies — I just re-read what you posted and I’m sorry I was so thick skulled on the first go-round.

  The answer is “no” to additional custom pinging options. Our wp.com blogs are equipped with pingomatic. We can choose to use pingoat, icerocket or whatever and manually ping our posts as well but pingomatic is the only “built-in” pinging service.

  to this

  We provide support only for blogs hosted here at wordpress.com as it’s different from the regular WordPress software that you can download from http://wordpress.org

  Most folks probably don’t know what wpmu is anyway.

  At the present time there appear to be problems with both pingomatic and with pingoat. I would recommend that you manually ping Technorati each time you publish a post. http://technorati.com/ping
