Custom Post Type vs Custom Template

    I was just wondering, what is the main benefits of creating a Custom Post Type over a Custom Template.

    In other words, what would be the best situation to create a Custom Post Type, and what would be the best situation to create a Custom Template.

    Hi,

    The questions are irrelevant to WordPress.com accounts and websites. You can’t create a “custom post type” on a WordPress.com site. The only templates or themes allowed on a WordPress.com site are those included in the WordPress.com Theme Showcase. Such options may be relevant to a WordPress.org site. Are asking questions with regard to a self-hosted WP.org site? If so, you are in the wrong forum.
