Custom Theme

    My wife is interested in starting a blog. She already owns her desired domain name and wants to upload a custom theme for her site. We have looked over the plans and see that according to the plan documentation only the business plan allows you to upload a custom theme. She does not want to create the blog under a business level plan but would like to have the custom theme to her account. She was sent an email offering a discount on the services which we greatly appreciate; the email also included access to help monetize her blog using the advantages that are available through WordPress directly. What advantage is there to using WordPress directly over hosting a blog using the WordPress software somewhere else that would allow us to customize and use any theme we can install? What negotiation can we do to allow her to use the WordPress website directly rather than seeking out a new hosting platform that allows WordPress integration? I look forward to your response.

    Thanks for getting in touch. I’m happy to help outline some of the major differences.

    First, which theme is she looking to use? Let’s see if we have one on WordPress.com that wouldn’t require the Business plan.

    With what you’ve described, and in order to use that theme, the business plan would be required with WordPress.com.

    The biggest benefit of using WordPress.com, which is a managed environment, versus running your own WordPress installation are that

    1. dedicated support team
    2. 7 day per week live chat support
    3. very minimal down time if any.ever.
    4. updates are handled by us
    5. site breaks – we fix it (that’s a big one)

    The domain can either be mapped to us or transferred to us. The transfer option would keep all of her site-related things in one space.
