Custom theme and nexgen gallery

Hello, .org has it and I though .com will not, but seems that there is no option for custom theme and uploading plugins – can someone tell me if there is?
The custom theme is simple, but with the plugin, here is what I am trying to achieve: I want to install nexgen gallery, so that i can get pictures placed and displayed like this :

Any ideas of how the next gen gallery kinda page can be achieved with the default settings? I kinda know how but know sure if I can get the ‘blackbox’ effect also going
