Custom Theme versions Upload

  Hi there, I have a team of developers (but newbies) and we are currently developing a theme we call theme 1.0 .
  I am wondering if how can we be able to upload it like a purchased theme?
  Purchased themes, when there are updates, will notify on the Appearance setting of WordPress and will ask you to update the theme.
  Updating the theme with these purchased themes will improve the site, new sections for example, and no data will be erased, etc.

  If we use this theme 1.0 we have in our website like for example 6 months, and then we would like to update the theme design and the idea is just to ‘UPDATE’ it, how will we I it?
  Should the theme files be uploaded somewhere?

  What are the considerations in the coding, structure, database, etc, we need to secure for us to have the theme ‘updatable’?

  Please send us resources, documentation, etc. And if you can answer our questions one by one.

  Hello there, In order to upload a Custom theme, you would need to upgrade to the Business plan. That is the only plan that allows uploading of custom themes and plugins. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  As to the mechanics of how you would do what you are asking, I’ve tagged this thread for Staff attention.

  Also, when you have a plan, you are also eligible direct Staff support at https://wordpress.com/help/contact while logged in with the username account that owns the Business plan upgrade.

  Is this for your site, https://alabcreatives.com/ ? That site is not on WordPress.com, but using the self-hosted WordPress.org software.

  If you have any questions those pages don’t answer, I recommend asking in the self-hosted forums, as the users there have experience with this type of issue.

  Hi kokkieh, alabcreatives.com is not yet the wordpress theme we are creating. Thanks for your suggestions we will look into them!

  Regardless what site you’re using it on, that documentation is what you need for creating a theme for use with WordPress.

  If you want to use it with a WordPress.com site, you’ll need the Business Plan, as @justjennifer said. I do want to add that should you do that, I don’t think auto-updating would be possible, unless your theme is added to the WordPress.org theme repository first. There is no FTP access and no access to server configuration on WordPress.com, which I’m guessing might be needed to auto-update a theme from another location than the official .org repo.
