Custom type with stored tabular data

  I need to create a custom type for a client that stores a small amount of spreadsheet data within it, editable via some kind of table widget. The table will probably likely have less than 20 rows and columns, and I will be writing the code to parse it.

  Does anyone know how to approach storing and editing this type of information? Either coding from scratch, or some kind of plugin that provides a way to do it?
