Custom upgrade not so bueno for Dum. Selection of fonts on WP side is limited.
-
I purchased the Custom Design Upgrade assuming I would have access to all of Typekit’s fonts on the WP side, however the drop down menu of fonts available at WP is sadly lacking (OK, 53 fonts, but who’s counting).
I have read and read and read and the closest answer I could find to my dilemma was this woman’s problem here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-can-i-get-my-typekit-fonts-to-work-on-my-site?replies=7.
Like her, I do not know the first thing about CSS, so I guess that means unless I learn how/what selectors to use in Typekit’s Kit Editor, I’m stuck with the fonts offered at WP. Correct?
I could try to willy-nilly add selectors, but which selectors would I assign to which fonts? It would be a total crapshoot.
On the WP side we have three options: Site Title, Headings and Body Text. How would you translate that to TypeKit’s Editor Selectors?
I read TypeKit’s instruction and it makes no sense to me (as I don’t know CSS):
“Using font family names in your CSS. In addition to using the Selectors setting to tell Typekit where to apply this font, you can use the font directly in your CSS rules with the following font-family values…etc.,etc.”
Huh?
Also, TypeKit’s Page Elements only has a few of WP’s themes to choose from and mine is not on that list (Oulipo). Does that matter?
I have read some tutorials on CSS for beginners, but I guess I need one for dummies, because honestly it was all waaay over my poor little pea brain.
Is there instructions for nincompoops like me on how to use Typekit’s Editor. I have already read all the supporting docs on the custom upgrade and they weren’t very detailed. Either they were so lame, they weren’t helpful, or they were too advanced as they assumed you already knew everything about writing code.
So basically I don’t like any of the fonts on the WP side. What custom options are there for people, like myself, who don’t know CSS?
I’ve been here http://www.htmldog.com/guides/cssbeginner/ and searched the CSS forum (in fact, all the forums on WP.com) for instructions…but I am still at a loss.
Sorry for the long question…

Our Custom Design upgrade only includes the fonts provided. For additional fonts, you’ll need to purchase a larger selection from Typekit.
Once you have done that, you’ll help you to get up and running with the fonts you want.
