Custom Website – Not using default posts
-
We had our website http://www.namgis.bc.ca built by an outside company who had built several sites using wordpress for other small places. There were issues because we have our own server running IIS, and there were transfer problems but we got it running on our servers. (There are still problems, we are working on them)
The question I have is our site doesn’t use the default ‘Posts’ page for anything and it seems to me this is wrong, as so many custom features, views, widgets etc. use the posts page, so is this a common thing to do?

Hi
Your website is a self-hosted installation of WordPress, thus allowing for the installation of plugins and other features. In this case the developer used what is know as Custom Post Types to have content appear in certain places, and in certain formats. This is not uncommon as a way to extend self hosted WordPress functionality.
For future support on self hosted sites, I’d suggest the WordPress.org forums.
Hope that helps!
