Custom Widgets on Sidebar
-
Hi! I’m extremely new to CSS code. Is there a way to add a custom widget to the side bar? I figure I can just copy and paste the widget’s code into the stylesheet, but I don’t know where exactly I need to insert the code. THanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.
Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, you must have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.
WordPress has provided a preview function here > Dashboard > Appearance > Edit CSS
There are links to CSS resources found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/#css-resourcesPlease read this post before undertaking any CSS editing> http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/
Please also be patient while waiting for another Volunteer to assist you.

You cannot put HTML, javascript, flash and such in CSS. CSS is for styling only. It is simply a document that tells the browser how to style and position the different elements of a page.
To tell you if the code you want to use can be used here, we would have to see it. Paste it here in the forums so that we can see it and give you an answer. Otherwise all we can do is guess really.

The way to post code into this forum so it displays properly is to post it between backticks. The backtick, not to be confused with the single quotation mark, is found on the key to the left of the number 1 key on your keyboard. It’s the same key the tilde ~ is found on, but in lower case.backtick

Thank you both so much for helping me with this. I’m really trying to learn the ropes here.
Here is the code. If it doesn’t work in the unpaid version, I’m planning on getting the full wordpress.org package.<script id="dlvr-widget" src="http://widgets.dlvr.it/45fe4acef6e5f90ba591a1717d691788_3AgAV9wfMbj76pkH1kkUaYdG6PkvvTvvJj95v50MLxWXw7zLT9_2BPnXJAQCrpbS6GlDDsBwJa17_2FGZA" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> DlvrWidget({ width:300, items:5, widgetbg:'dbd8db', widgetborder:'828082', titlecolor:'4a494a', containerbg:'dbd8db', containerborder:'545454', linkcolor:'4a494a', textcolor:'471f06' }).render(); </script> -
Javascript is not allowed here for security reasons.
@TT, bummer on the motherboard, but at least it didn’t take out the hard drive and your data.

True. Did I mention I “killed” my husband’s computer too yesterday? This morning he took it in for repair. Then there’s the van – she blew a head gasket and is DEAD – I’m om foot. -

There is no “paid” version of wordpress software. All software installs from wordpress.ORG are free of charge. What you pat doe is web hosting and yes you can use JavaScript in wordpress.ORG installs. Please see here > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Again that is javascript, and javascript is not allowed here due to security concerns.

You could also try a codeless approach to custom sidebars using the Graceful Sidebar Plugin. This plugin lets you create a custom sidebar for each post or page individually. Hope this helps!
Enjoy!

That won’t work on WordPress.com where plugins aren’t allowed so not very helpful on this forum I’m afraid.
