Customers cannot create an account

  I had a friend attempt to create a customer account. He entered a email address and password and selected ‘register’. Nothing seemed to happen. When he tried to login he got a message: ‘unknown email address check again or try user name’.

  I attempted to create a test account with a email and password and got the same results. I then attempted to register again with the same credentials I had used before and it worked and took me to the account dashboard.

  I need help understanding why this is happening and how to fix it.
