Customising Front page to open a particular category

  I would like to know if it is possible to open a particular category in the homepage by default.

  I could see in the options available at Reading Settings > where i could set only to another post or latest posts.

  What i want is to open a category by default e.g.: http://www.site.wordpress.com/category/abc etc

  You cannot set a category page as the main page of your site, and you cannot exclude categories from the main blog page.

  You could create and set a static front page and then put the category widget into your sidebar for people to click on, or you could use a custom menu and have the categories there if you do not have too many.
