Customising my page
-
I am trying to customize my page but it comes up with a blank page with the message “Cheatin’ uh?”
Is this normal? And if so, is there a way to customize my page? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
What sort of customizations are you hoping to do?
How do you end up on that blank page? Could you detail the steps?
-
Hi there, thank you for your reply.
I am simply just trying to customize my theme using the free themes from the list. If I try and activate the theme it says “Failed to activate that theme. Try again or contact support..” When I then open that theme’s window to bring up more information about it, and then click Activate > Customize Site, it brings me to the blank page saying “Cheatin’ uh?”.Any ideas? I essentially just want to change the look of my blog.
-
HOW are you attempting to customize it? We can’t help you until you’re more specific.
Do you have the CUstom Design upgrade?
-
Im literally going to My Site on the dashboard > Change theme > then selecting the theme I want
-
And I do not have the custom design upgrade. My blog was sent through to me via an email from my university tutor which I then accepted and activated. Would this be the reason? I have asked my tutors and they seem to not know the issue.
-
So you’re just clicking to change theme? Which theme are you changing it to? Does it do this with all of them?
-
Yes all of them, I have tried all the ones that are free. I am not looking to purchase a theme and would want to stick with one of the free ones.
I have googled the issue aswell and there are similar posts in regards to the “Cheating uh?” message, although it seems to happen across other functions, not just the theme change.
Thank you for your replies again and I hope to come to a solution! -
The “Cheating uh?” message is also arising after clicking Customize after going to my My Sites > Customize
-
I have found this piece of code https://wordpress.org/support/topic/cheatin-uh-fix
Would this work?
If so where would I put this code? -
I have actually found another way to get on to the theme page, and this time it’s coming up with a dropdown menu before Activating a theme. The dropdown menu gets me to select which Site I would like to apply the theme to, however the list is empty, thus my page is not registering whenever I am trying to customize it. Are there any solutions around this?
-
This is bizarre. The process to change themes is really simple normally. You go to your blog. You go to the dashboard. You go to Appearance->Themes and click Activate on whatever theme you want and it just works. Are you trying to right-click on them instead to open in a new tab?
-
Thank you chaintanyamsv, yes it does seem like a common issue. If you do find any solution or a response from the staff, please post it on this thread!
Many thanks

Hi there,
You’re not able to change the theme on the site http://timothyshelley.wordpress.com/ because you’re an Author on the site. Only Administrators can change a site’s theme. (You can learn more about User Roles to see what Authors, Administrators, and other users can do on a site.)
I’m also checking with our team to find out why you’re seeing the option to change your site’s theme, given that you aren’t an administrator on the site. Sorry for that confusion!
-
My tutor from college has created my account for me, which I then had to accept an invite to begin my blog.
Thank you for the solution, rachelmcr!
Is there any way I am able to be an administrator for my blog? -
Your tutor can change your user role from an Author to an Administrator on the blog. That will give you full access to all of your blog’s settings. :)
