Customising post width on Snap theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there

    I have a question regarding the Snap theme… hopefully someone can help me? I would like my individual blog posts to display at full width, without the sidebar showing. I know that this is possible if you select a post to be part of the “portfolio” section, but I´d like for all of the posts to be full width when viewed individually, although I´d like the sidebar to stay as it is on the “blog” page… do you know what I mean, and is this possible?

    Thanks so much in advance!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi, try the following CSS:

    // This hides sidebar on single post view
    body.single-post #sidebar {
    	display: none
    }
    // This makes the main content area wider, not that the sidebar is gone
    body.single-post .with-sidebar {
    	width: 100%;
    }

    Typo on the CSS comment :( Should have said: “This makes the main content area wider, now that the sidebar is gone”

    Hi!

    Thanks so much for you fast response, the CSS works perfectly to remove the sidebar as I had hoped, but now I seem to have an issue with images sizes… The images that I upload to the blog are all 820px wide, but in certain posts (posts that used to have the sidebar when displayed singly) the images are displaying at about 600px. This is even happening when I create a new post, I upload the images at full size but then they automatically resize to be smaller. Any idea how I can fix this?

    Thanks so much!

    See here:

    Check if you have chosen the correct image size for your pictures.

    Hi

    I have chosen the correct image size, and even if I select “full size” (point number 7 in the link above) it still displays at 600px wide in certain posts. See here: http://piteiraphotography.com/2014/01/23/behind-the-scenes-2013/

    But this post is displaying at 820px wide: http://piteiraphotography.com/2014/02/05/wedding-photographers-cape-town/

    The Snap theme has a feature whereby you can select certain posts to be your “Portfolio” posts, and they will display at full width, without a sidebar… but when I use your CSS to remove the sidebar on all posts, then the images don´t display at full size, even though they´ve been inserted at full size. I´m going to post this in the Premium theme forum too, hopefully someone will be able to help.

    Thanks for your help!

    The case with 600px images is rather curious. I took a lot at the code for both posts you mentioned and underneath the code is identical.

    Can you test by removing an image with 600px width, and then re-adding it with the full-size option selected?

    An example URI for the 600px image is this:
    http://piteiraphotography.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/behind-th-scenes-2013-3.jpg?w=651

    It is the w=651 part that forces the image to be of 600 (well, 651px to be precise) width. It seems to be generated by WP, so perhaps re-adding things can fix that.

    Hi again

    I have already tried what you suggested, I created a whole new post from scratch and uploaded photos, inserted them at full size and still the same thing is happening… is there any way (via CSS perhaps) to remove that “w=651” from the urls?

    The only way that I seem to be able to make the images display at full width is, after I have inserted them, I edit each individual image (click on image, click edit button, go to “advanced settings”, re-set to original size) but it´s really unrealistic to have to do this with every single image that´s on the blog, including future images.

    Thank you for getting back to me so quickly!

    Hey,

    it’s weird and I’m not sure what happened, then :(

    A faster way to edit each individual image is to switch to Text Editor mode

    Types of WordPress Editors

    And then delete the ?w=651 text yourself. This is still a manual process, but can be a temporary solution.

    Thanks for your help, but like you said, this is only a temporary solution and I would very much like to find out what´s causing this problem. Is there any way to attract the attention of a staff member to this thread, see if they can help?

    Thank you.

    It may not be connected, but make sure that you’ve also changed the content width for videos and other media. You can do this in the relevant Content Width box below the Customizer’s CSS window.

    YES!!!! Thank you, it totally worked, and it was such an obvious solution that it didn´t even occur to me to check that. Duh!

    Justjennifer, you are a genius, thank you!!! xoxox
