Customising the CSS Template

    Hi there,

Thanks in advance for the help.

I was wondering if I could confirm that buying the option to customise the CSS could accomplish 2 things:

    1. setting out the categories (they are listed by alphabetical order) as part of the navigation bar; and

    2. Putting the feature pages, ‘How to Buy;’ and ‘How to Rent’ as prominent featured pages on the home page.

I realise the website may come across as not your typical blog. Decided to use wordpress because I thought it could accomplish what I was aiming for. Thanks again.

    Regards,
    John

P.S. Is it possible to migrate the website and all the content to an independently hosted site later once traffic picks up?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Just read about moving blogs from wordpress.com to wordpress.org, so got the answer to my P.S. question already, thanks. Apologies that the questions reveal that I’m still trying to find my way around wordpress.

I have read the ‘READ ME FIRST’ post for this forum category and understand that PHP cannot be editted for wordpress.com blogs. Is it correct to say that my 2 questions can still be addressed using wordpress.com?

    1. You can do this by creating a custom menu. With a custom menu you can add categories, tags, custom links, pretty much anything you want to it, and you can even use dropdown submenus. You can also arrange any of the menu items in any order you want.

    2. By default, the main page shows posts, but you can create a static front page and then have a different page for you posts, and then on that static front page, you could perhaps give excepts from how to buy and how to rent with links to the actual pages. You can style the text and use larger header text for the titles and such and perhaps include an image in each of the excerpts.

On the P.S., yes you can export your content and import it into a self-hosted wordpress installation on a different web host very easily, and during import, it even gives you the opportunity to have it automatically bring over all your uploads (images, pdfs, etc.). See here for more information on moving a blog.

The theme and any customizations would not come along with the export, but most themes available here are also available for self-hosted sites, and you might even find some that would work better for what you are wanting to do.

Thank you. That was great. You’ll see if customised the menu and created a new home page through your guidance.
