Customization

    Hi,
I can’t customize any theme. If I try and change the color, or font, the side bar to the right just says “saving changes” forever. In order to customize anything, is the premium upgrade needed? Or does it depend on the theme?
    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

NOTE: The Appearance → Themes → Customize section will not load if you have not yet published any content on your blog. To make sure that’s not the problem, you should follow the instructions in this help page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/

You do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade, which it appears that you have not purchased.
    https://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/custom-design/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/

All of the very same functions can be accessed from your dashboard.
    Appearance > Header
    Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > General

If you are using the “Try Now” preview mode for the paid Custom Design upgrade, https://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/custom-design/ the settings related to that upgrade will save but they won’t show up on your blog unless you have purchased the upgrade.

To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

Thank you for your response. I still can’t figure it out. I posted something, and then tried to customize (just change the color scheme) and it just keeps “saving changes” forever. It won’t actually change it. I’ll need to find someone to help me.
    Thanks

Im just looking into it more now, and everything is telling me that you can’t change a thing unless you pay for customization? Is this true. If not, all of the themes just have to stay the way they originally look?

Yes. It’s true. Every theme has some minor customization features that vary from theme to theme. However, no changes you make aside from those the theme provides for will be visible to visitors unless you purchase the annually renewable upgrade and do the required CSS editing.

This is a detailed theme description link http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/liquorice/

The features for that theme are:
    Infinite Scroll
    Two Columns
    Right Sidebar
    Fixed Width
    Custom Background
    Custom Header
    Custom Menu
    Post Formats
    Theme Options
    Featured Images

These functions can be accessed from your dashboard – no upgrade required.
    Appearance > Header
    Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > General
