Customization within existing themes

How can I add a text box to create a background for the text within posts? I have a background image that I like for the blog but it is hard to read the text. @http://nscfarming.wordpress.com/.
Thanks,
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Give this a try. You can edit the hex color code. I just used the same light grey as the above elements and also matched the border radius.
ul.grid { background-color: #F5F5F5; -webkit-border-radius: 6px; -moz-border-radius: 6px; border-radius: 6px; padding: 10px; } -
Thank you for your help! It is starting to look more how I would like. The code will make the photos on the home page have a background but I still cannot modify the background color of individual text within posts. Is this possible?

Don’t get too carried away with changing text color or use a bunch of different colors within posts as that decreases readability and comprehension and will drive some people away. When I find such posts, I don’t bother reading them at all.
Just sayin’
