Customizations aren't showing

I am new to word press and just tried customizing my site. I chose a them and went through the whole process of setting colors and widgets, etc. I saved all my changes but when I click “View Site” it shows the theme with NONE of my customization choices. When I go back to customizer, it comes up WITH all my changes. So why don’t they show on my site? Please help!

I have already tried clearing the cookies and cache, closing out of the browser and going back in, opening it in different types of browsers, and nothing is helping.

You’re currently using Custom Design features in trial mode, so you can preview them in the Customizer but they aren’t visible to the public. If you’d like to use Custom Design fully, you can upgrade your site to the Premium or Business plan, which come with the Custom Design feature.

I have a friend who has a free wordpress site and her customizations work. I chose my theme and I am just trying to change the background color and all the link and font colors. Those are the only changes that don’t seem to be sticking. My header picture stayed after I set it and my widgets are there as well. It’s just the colors that I’m having a problem with really.

Changing the header and background colour in any theme that supports those features doesn’t require an upgrade.
Some themes also come with free colour palettes – your friend may have one of those, what theme are they using?
To change the colour of elements beyond the background and free palettes, it does require an upgrade. Custom Design also lets you change fonts and add custom CSS.

Ok one more question, how do I know which themes support custom designs? Does that show somewhere?
My friend said she is using the “Sketch” theme.

All themes support Custom Design – but perhaps I’m not quite sure what you mean.

Sketch comes with three featured colour palettes, perhaps she’s using one of those?

In your original response you said that I was using Custom Design features in “trial mode.” So how do I know when I’m in trial mode? And the design I have comes with color palettes too. So maybe if I choose colors from one of the palettes, the changes will show up?

You know you’re in trial mode because you get a prompt to upgrade and there is a little circle next to the features that are part of the trial.
Dusk to Dawn doesn’t include any free featured palettes – they are all only available with Custom Design. You can see that there is no “featured” strip on any of the palettes, like you saw with Sketch:
