Customize and edit WP-projects on subdomains

    I did create different WP-projects on a main domain and on different subdomains. The WP-project on the main domain can be customized and edited as usual, but when I want to edit the projects on the subdomains, Jetpack switches into »Jetpack Safe Mode« and I am told that I cannot access the site due to a lack of rights. I cannot add the subdomains to my sites on wordpress.com, either. Jetpack is already installed on them.

    I do not understand why I cannot access the projects on the subdomains in order to edit and customize them. My domain hoster tells me he cannot find any restrictions. What can I do?

    Hi there,

    By “different WP-projects”, do you mean different sites? As in, you have multiple websites hosted on subdomains from the same domain?

    Jetpack’s Safe Mode triggers when Jetpack thinks you’re trying to add the same site you already have added but with a different domain. If that’s not the case, you need to tell Jetpack that it’s a new site and you want to create a new connection, as explained here:

    Thank you very much for your kind reply.

    Yes, that is all perfectly true: I mean »different sites«, and they are multiple Web-sites on subdomains of the same domain. And: yes, that certainly is the reason why Jetpack’s Safe Mode was triggered.

    The problem is: when I want to edit the sites on the subdomains and I click on »Jetpack Safe Mode«, I get a page saying: »Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.« Therefore, I cannot tell Jerpack how to handle the site, and I cannot edit the site at all.

    But I need access to the site in order to edit it, of course…
