Customize background color with Twenty Fourteen theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
    I watched this tutorial https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-backgrounds/
Using the Twenty Fourteen theme, I would like to change the background color of my pages.
It is currently white. I would like to turn it darker to smoothen the contrast with the header, menu, and footer which are black.

I followed the tutorial but pages remain desperately white.

Could you please help me out?
Do you confirm that background colors can be customized with free themes?

    Thank you,
    Ema

    Hi, Ema,

According to the theme specs, yes, you can update the background image/color, as mentioned here under customize, BUT there is a note that states Note: the background image/color may only show on very wide screens.

I was curious, so I walked through the steps on a test blog, the background did show up but actually only a sliver of color on the far right.

Not sure how helpful that is for a background color for you. :)

    Hi Christine,

    Thanks.
I have noted this sliver on the right as well.
This is not enough of a background :(

Actually, in the tutorial, the color changes entirely (menu, header, footer and pages). That makes me think something is wrong.

    Thanks anyway.

    Looking for a do-gooder…
    Ema
