Customize design tools aren't loading, what can I do?

What can I do if the customize tools aren’t loading? Is it just a site problem or have I possibly messed something up?

Just before this I created a new page and deleted the “Home” page, could that have something to do with it? The blog itself opens, I can make new posts and pages etc, it’s just the design tools that aren’t working. I want to get there to be able to change the default home page to the one I created instead of the “Home” page it defaulted to previously, and of course, instead of the “not found” page it defaults to now.

I tried emptying cache and cookies, didn’t help at all.

    Any pointers?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

NOTE: The Appearance → Themes → Customize section will not load if you have not yet published any content on your blog. To make sure that’s not the problem, you should follow the instructions in this help page:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/

Have you purchased the annually renewable custom design upgrade?
    https://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/custom-design/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/

Note that you do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade, which it appears that you have not purchased.

All of the very same functions can be accessed from your dashboard.
    Appearance > Header
    Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > General

If you are using the “Try Now” preview mode for the paid Custom Design upgrade, https://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/custom-design/ the settings related to that upgrade will save but they won’t show up on your blog unless you have purchased the upgrade.

To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

Oh, to clarify, the customize web page opens, but displays a white window on the left, and “Loading design tools…” on a dark grey background to the right.

    Thanks Timethief!

I still can’t access the design tools, but at least with your information I could change the static page displayed on entry to the one I had made instead of pointing to an empty page. I hadn’t realized the same settings can be found down there. Although, the design tools _would_ be nice to have since they allow live editing of what the page looks like – even though there’s not much to change without the actualy customization upgrade.

    Anyway, thanks for the help!

I want to get there to be able to change the default home page to the one I created instead of the “Home” page it defaulted to previously, and of course, instead of the “not found” page it defaults to now.

You do not need to load the customize section for this at all.
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

To do that create two pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

    Front page displays
    __ Your latest posts

    A static page (select below)
