Hi there. You should be able to change your background colour via the Customizer. On the My Sites page, click on the Customize link in the sidebar, or on the WP-Admin dashboard, select Appearance ->Customize. You can change the background colour under the Background and Colours option. You can change it to either another colour or to an image.
I think the only way you can remove the Read More button for featured pages on your home page is via CSS, and you’ll need the Custom Design upgrade to do that.
You can post your question in the CSS customisation forum for info on what code will be needed to make this change: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform
See here for more info on the custom design upgrade:

I have set the color background to a color that I like and found a CSS code to change the color of the bottom section of my blog as well but I’d like to change the white background that is prominent in the edin theme. Is there a way to do that? Here is my blog:

Thanks.

I take it you’re referring to the background of the content area? If the colour options in the Customizer doesn’t allow you to change that (it sounds like you already have the Custom Design upgrade?), then you’ll need to edit the theme’s CSS. Please post in the CSS forum for the code needed to do this. It’s not that I’m unwilling to help, but I know nothing about CSS :)You can use this link to create a new thread in the CSS forum: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform
