Customize formatting for digital portfolio pages
-
I am working on a digital portfolio and haven’t yet found a way to remove the header and menu from the portfolio pages (would like to see the portfolio images whole page if possible). Is it possible to do this with my free account? If not, if I upgrade to a premium account, if there a way for me do this? Currently my theme is “vigilance”. I’m open to switching theme’s if necessary. Thank you!!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We could use CSS (part of the premium package) to remove the header and menu from your portfolio pages, but before we go with that option, I recommend you browse some of our newer themes designed for portfolios. I think you’ll find something there that gives you the look you want without having to completely remove navigation from the page.

Let me know if you have any questions, or want more help picking a theme!

Thanks for this response. I tried to upgrade to the premium package but it’s not available for my blog (I believe the theme I’m using has been discontinued). I’ve also found a theme that I’d like to switch to (Broardwalk) but I’m very nervous about loosing data from my original blog in the transfer. Two questions (1) Is there a way to save everything without it going live right away, so I have time to redesign the blog in the new format? and (2) if start another blog with the Broardwalk theme, can I somehow tether it to my older blog (under the same domain name)?

Your theme has been discontinued, but the reason you are having trouble upgrading to premium is that your existing domain upgrades are owned by a different user on the site. If you purchase the premium upgrade through that account, or transfer the domain upgrade ownership to your account you’ll be able to upgrade to premium. Let me know if you have any trouble with that and I can help from this end as well.

The best way forward on this is to export a copy of your content into a test blog, play with Boardwalk over there and then once you know for sure you like what things look like, you can make the changes “for real” on your main site.
Here are the steps to follow.
- Export the content from your current site. (This won’t remove the content, just make a copy of everything)
Export - Create a new WordPress site in your current account. Give it a name you won’t get mixed up with your existing site. I also recommend making it private. Here’s the direct link for the page where you can create the test site:
https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?ref=calypso-sites - Import the content you exported into the test site. Here are the instructions for that.
Import
If you have any questions about that or get stuck along the way, let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

Thank you!!! This is hugely helpful. If I get stuck along the way, I’ll get back to you!

Hi There,
Thank you for your help thus far but still have a question.
I am hoping to have a portfolio main page with 4 Boardwalk style columns that are clickable to different projects. I have the portfolio set up in the side bar and can add media, but I don’t know how to create a portfolio main page. I’m hoping you can help us create this (separate from my home page.
Thank you!

Hi there!
Maureen’s a little under the weather so I’m helping out with her threads.
We do automatically turn your portfolio projects into a page, which can be found here:

Is that what you’re looking for?
