Customize Read More under Post Exerpt

I manage a wordpress page for my company. (It wouldn’t let me log into the account over here on the forum). On the blog posts page it says “read more” under each post to take you to the individual post. Instead of the read more “button” which takes you to the full blog post they want to have the “button” give a read time or video time (2 min read, 3 min video, etc). I’ve spent the last day and a half scouring forums and the internet trying to find out how, but all I’ve come across is how to turn a post into an excerpt and customize that read more text, or how to change the read more universally across all blog posts. In the image I linked the top picture shows what they want, the bottom shows our current blog post page.

    Hi there,

I am not sure if this can bedone universally without some serious HTML and CSS which I will let the staff explain to you because maybe it’s possible. However what I do know is that the Rosalie theme does that for you but it won’t be on the read more button, try the theme and see if that’s good enough.

In the meantime, while we wait for staff assistance could you please provide the URL of the site you saw the function on I would very much like to inspect the code and see if there is an easy workaround to achieve this?

Ok. so that’s a fancy custom theme they are using and it looks like it’s all custom HTML, which on sites hosted on WordPress.com on some plans is limited for security reasons. You shouldn’t have that problem as I see Your site is using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) and hosted with another WebHost.
The forum you are posting on is intended for supporting free sites hosted here at WordPress.com. For help with a WordPress site hosted elsewhere you’ll need to ask over at the WordPress.org forums:

Hi, also maybe look into this as well,

this is how your site is appearing on my browser.

That is very odd. It looks fine on both my computers and my phone and my tablet. I reached out to one of my co-workers and it looks fine on her computer. I have two other co workers who are having it appear like it is for you. Why would it be doing that? Since it looks fine for me I’m not sure what to look for to fix it…

  • Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with GoDaddy.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

https://wordpress.org/support/ is a great resource for sites using the open source WordPress.org software, and you can find support for that at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Your hosting provider’s support team may also be able to assist.

Thank you. I was unaware of this. This project was kind of thrown on me and I am most definitely not a web designer, but it was decided that I was the best candidate to try and figure it out… and nobody could tell me much about the site at all.
