Customize Website

Hello I am having issues with deleting the text that came with the free theme of my website. I wanted to add an area for my portfolio. I want to have visitors click ‘portfolio’ in the menu option just as the ‘home’, ‘about’ and ‘contact us’ links. I’m unsure of how to do that. Also, how do I just have the image on the homepage only just show on the home page rather than each page? I added what says the ‘site page’ but it only shows my images below the image on the homepage instead of a viewer clicking a menu option to get to my portfolio images. When I visit the site, those portfolio images aren’t showing on the homepage. Lastly I had to delete some options for my contact us page. My email, name and website were revealed in the text boxes.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey ayninayart!

If you want to add a portfolio section to the drop down then you’ll need to edit your menu. To do this click on Customize(next to Themes), Menus, then select your menu(usually Primary). From there click Add Items, then select your Portfolio page. You should see it show up immediately in your menu.

For your home page image what you’ll want to do is add a Static Front Page. Go back to the Customizer, click Static Front Page, then choose A Static Page. From here you can either create a new page or set up an existing one to be your home page. Either way, when you’re done go back to your Dashboard, click Site Pages, then select the page that you set. On the right side menu pick Featured Image, then set the image. That image will only show up on this page, which is currently set as your home page.

As for the contact us page, if you’re signed in to WordPress.com it will always autopopulate those fields with your information. You’re the only one who can see it and if someone else goes to that page, it will either autopopulate their information instead or it will show up as blank.

I hope this helped, let us know if any of it is still giving you trouble!

Your theme, Sketch, takes advantage of the Portfolio feature. You can find detailed instructions on how to set it up here:

Hi again, thanks so much for your response! The only issue I’m having now is the image on my homepage still shows up on all of my menu options. I followed the directions as you’ve given me to select this image as the featured image. This same image shows up not only of the home page but, my portfolio, about and contact page.

    Hi-

You can go to Themes >>Customize

    Click on Header Image

This is where you added the image. If you want to remove it on all pages, click on “Hide Image”

If you would like different images to come up each time you go to a different page or each time the page loads, upload more photos to this section by clicking “add new image”

Then scroll down and click “Randomize Suggested Headers”

    Hope this helps!
