Customizing a Theme
-
I am using the Basic Theme and want to modify the header and footer. I am a PHP developer so I can customize the code in the Theme folder but I fear that anytime I update the theme from the vendor of the Basic Theme it will clobber my changes. I am trying to find a way to do this without the maintenance over head every time the theme is updated.

Hey there,
I fear that anytime I update the theme from the vendor of the Basic Theme it will clobber my changes
Your concern is valid and there’s an excellent workaround. I’d recommend using a child theme:
Also, for help with a self-managed site you’ll want to use the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ — there’s a developer forum you’re likely to find handy!
And, you can still use that forum for dev help even if you’re having us host and manage your site here with your own plugins on a Business plan.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply.
I am using AWS LightSail with WordPress running on Linux based instance. The Basic Theme is from https://wp-puzzle.com/ I just saw a post in here that I am not permitted to touch the footer from the theme vendor. So at this point it looks like this case is closed.
Thanks for your help.
