Customizing a WordPress Website
-
Hello support. I am a web developer, but from a different world. I use ASP.NET as my coding platform for websites. However, I’ve been very impressed with wordpress sites that I’ve seen lately and therefore have a question about development.
I have a site that a client wants me to build and they like this one: http://www.alfredstreet.org/. I recognize that as a WordPress site and I confirmed it. Would you point me in the right direction as to how I would build a site like that. I could do it readily with my current method, but would like to use WordPress instead and going forward for many upcoming projects. What I mean is could you tell me what I need to learn to customize that site or is that some kind of theme or template? Where would I find documentation about customizing websites under the hood so to speak?

Hello there,
We provide support here only for WordPress.COM hosted blogs. That site is not among them and you are posting to the wrong support forum so I’ll point you to the correct one for WordPress>ORG software.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page -
Thanks timethief. I didn’t realize there were a wordpress.com and wordpress.org. Like I said, I’m a newbie. :-) Thanks for the info. I’ll check the other site out.
