Customizing a WP blog “by scratch”?
-
Hello all,
I’m wondering if there is a way to customize a WP blog more “by scratch” (ie. like Typepad where I can alter the color of the background, widen certain columns, etc)?
Or must we use templates that are already provided?
Also, I know there are WP templates available on the Internet… how difficult is it to implement third-party WP templates?
I want to thank you, in advance, for your help! :)

I just did some searching around and saw that I am not able to create a blog “from scratch” as with Typepad, etc.
Guess I should have searched before I asked, eh?! :)

The only WordPress theme that comes close to doing what TypePad can do is Atahualpa, which is what I am using, but that will only work for wordpress.ORG, not for wordpress.COM.

This is not exactly what you want, but there are themes we can use where you can customize the colors:

(Not advisable if you don’t have experience —don’t count on lots of CSS support in the forums…) -

With CSS you can come pretty close, but it will never be the same as what you do can do in TypePad. Been there, done that, and switched to wordpress.ORG.

You can always purchase the CSS upgrade and use Sandbox. Sandbox is empty of CSS and actually REQUIRES customization in order to look like anything. You can see my blog for an example, or there are many creative examples at http://csswiz.wordpress.com
But don’t buy the upgrade if you don’t know CSS.
