Customizing Archives Widget
-
Hi, the following is my website:
https://vtteardroptravelers.wordpress.com/I am using Gateway as my current FREE theme
I am trying to Add Archives to my side bar with the following characteristics:
• List the Months I have posted blogs in a column below the Archives Widget
• When the month is selected, the blog posts and dates appear for the purpose of selection
• Force the home page to show the most recent blog post on topI did have the following in place at one time (and I have removed it in an attempt to create the above)
• A drop down list of the months when “Archives” was selected>>and then the individual blog post can be selected
• However, the home page showed a random posting from a middle date of postingsThis is what I have done:
My Sites>Themes>Widgets>Side Bar>Archives
• Removed the previous Archive widget
• Selected and titled the new archive widget
o Checked neither box (drop down or post counts)
o And later Checked the box for “show post counts”
• Under the “Visibility” box selected the following
o Show
o Date
o Monthly ArchivesThen clicked “Save and Publish” at the top
Under: My Sites>Themes>Static Home Page>Front Page Displays: I have selected “Your Latest Post”
The Front Page shows blog posts for the following dates:
May 19, June 18, June 18, May 25…etc. in progressively older dates
QUESTION #1: If I edited the text for the May 19 post and updated it will it change the order they are displayed?Currently the Archive Widget shows in faded type face and does not appear in the live blog home page
QUESTION #2: How can I have the Archives widget display on the home page as I have indicated in the first paragraph? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I am trying to Add Archives to my side bar with the following characteristics:
• List the Months I have posted blogs in a column below the Archives WidgetThe Archives Widget itself lists the months in which posts (blogs) have been published. So you’re asking for another list of the same below the archives widget?
• When the month is selected, the blog posts and dates appear for the purpose of selection
That’s what the archives widget does on your site. Look for example at your May 2017 archives page. The archives widget is displayed in the sidebar widget area, and each item in the widget links to an archives page for a certain month.
• Force the home page to show the most recent blog post on top
The archives widget doesn’t have this capability, and the home page will show the most recent blog post on top by default. The reason it isn’t presently doing so on the site https://vtteardroptravelers.wordpress.com/ is that the May 9th post, “A Big Cave to Sunny California,” is evidently marked as a sticky post. See the Sticky Posts section of the Post Visibility support page. You may unmark the post as sticky by switching to off the toggle option that says “Stick to the front page” in the Post Settings.
• Under the “Visibility” box selected the following
o Show
o Date
o Monthly ArchivesThis setting will result in the archives widget displayed only on monthly archives pages. The archives widget will display on each static page (except a page assigned the Homepage Template), archives page, post, etc., if you do not specify where it will display. To do this, just change the setting to the default, which would be
o Show (or Hide) if:
–Select–And save that setting.
