Customizing home page

  I am using the scratchpad template. I want my homepage to have three or four buttons on a top/header menu that link to each respectively categorized page. (i.e. painting button links to stuff about my painting)

  I also do not want an ABOUT section anywhere else but the homepage. I have it published there, however, it is also on another page that is about a different topic.
