Customizing Menu / Twenty-eleven theme

  I’ve eliminated the black background of the horizontal navbar
  so the menu pages appear as black text on a white page.
  But I’m still left with a horizontal gray outline of the navbar surrounding the text.
  I’ve gone as far as I can with the css but the boarder still remains.
  I’m looking for a clean look, black text white background — no navbar
