Customizing Sunburn…so minor, yet so not easy for me…
-
Hello all,
Newbie of course. For the record I tried finding a previous thread on this specifically, no luck and my eyes hurt. I’m using the Sunburn template, which as is works pretty well with my website color scheme. I do need to Change the Header, and add a Home button that would point back to my website home page, since I’m pointing the blog button on my website to the wordpress blog. So really that is it. I want to replace the header, and add a button/hyperlinked graphic pointing back to the home page. I did upgrade CSS.
I’m also having trouble adding widgets to the side bar. When i try to add links or vodpod & Flicker, I end up loosing what I have there now. I simply want to add the widgets. How can i do that without loosing the directory in the sidebar??

The blog title is a link back to your home page.
If you wish, you can make a home page link using a text widget and put it at the top of your sidebar.
Changing, or adding a header image will require the paid CSS upgrade and some working knowledge of CSS since Sunburn does not have a customizable header in its standard form. Since there is no official support for the CSS upgrade, it is not recommended for those that do not have experience with editing CSS.

Hey there,
Thanks a lot for your advice. I did in fact pay for the CSS upgrade, but it’s not going to do me much good unless i find someone who does have knowledge of CSS. I am going to attempt to use the text widget as you suggested, to atleast add a home page link at the top of the side bar. Again this link is to point to my website URL so visitors who visit my blog via my website, can return to my website by clicking on this link. Thanks again.

I thought you were talking about a home page link for your blog. Yes, the text widget is your best bet for a link to your website.

On the widgets. What you see when you first start your blog is a sample set. Once you actually add a widget by going to design > widgets, the sample set will disappear. All you have to do is note what is in the sidebar in the sample set, and then add those widgets back into the sidebar and arrange them as you wish.

There is no official support for CSS from WordPress.com and only a few people in the forums know enough to be able to help. Best bet is for you to spend some time learning it yourself. There are tutorials at the top of the CSS customization forum and you can search the forums for specific things that you want to do.

Heeeey =). Thank youthesacredpath and vivianpage for your help. I am absolutely going to dig in and learn some of this stuff, so I can make these minor changes myself. I’m just glad to have fellow members to point me in the right direction. Happy blogging.
