Customizing the Menu with CSS

I need to add blank spaces into the menu. I have created a custom menu already but it will format it the way I want it to look. Where can I edit the coding of the menu? I have been working with CSS to code my page and I purchased Custom Design so I would be able to have administrative control over the visual appeal of the menu bar. Is the menu embedded in the theme and thus unchangeable?

You can make changes to your site’s menu with the CSS upgrade. Can you let me know specifically what you’d like to change?

You’ll want to enter your custom CSS into your CSS editor via your Appearance -> Custom Design page.

I have the CSS upgrade. I would like the spacing of the pages in the menu to be more structured. So on the top line of the menu I would like it to look sort of like a table, reading:

Home About Us Services How we work [blank space in menu] Affiliates Presentations

the next line should then look like this:

Legal Project Management Value-Based Fees/AFAs Budgeting [blank space in menu] Contact Us

I thought it might be easier to make the menu into a table, with each page being a cell in the table, and I would be able to leave some of the cells blank.

I’m wondering if there might be a way to create blank pages as space holders in the menu to do this, or what the best method is..

  • Turning the menu into a table isn’t possible as Custom Design only allows you to modify the CSS, not the theme’s HTML.

Unfortunately, in this case there’s really no way to directly get what you’re asking for.

You can adjust the spacing between all menu items to be larger or smaller, but that’s only one value, so it would affect them all. You’d still have each of the items out of alignment.

Unfortunately, in this case what you’re after just isn’t possible on a WordPress.com blog.
