Customizing the Sela Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I have just created my blog with the Sela Theme (using the free WordPress plan). I am having a hard time customizing it how I want it to look. Specifically I would like the front page to look similar to the front page displayed in the demo. I tried following the Sela help page (https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sela/), but on my screen I don’t have “Reading Settings,” the pictures that I add are not full page, and I also do not see any widgets or anything. When I go to edit the home screen, it is just a blank text box (like how it looks for normal blog posts). Can anyone help me with customizing my theme? Do I need to do any HTML, CSS, or coding?

  • Hi! It looks like you’ve got it, actually. The key with most of these front-page-based themes is that you need to:

    – make a new page, add a large-enough featured image, set the Front Page template

    – go to My Site > Customize > Theme options and configure any front page settings you like

    – Check for any widgets you’d like to add to the front page, too, if your theme supports them

Once it’s all set up, publish the page. Publish new (blank) page for your blog posts, too, if you’d like. Then select your new Front Page and Posts page under My Site > Customize > Front Page Settings

Let us know if you need more help!
