Cut and Paste from Word to Notepad does not work

  • Unknown's avatar

I read all of the answers on cutting and pasting from MS word. I did that, pasted from Word to notepad. Than inserted text using the insert text on WordPress.

WordPress had an error, page not found. So, I started copying the article paragraph by paragraph. I was able to save three paragraphs this way. The forth gave me the page not found error. Than I started copying and pasting sentence by sentence. I than found that if I put the word “from” (without the quotes) I got the page not found error. I can put “from in any part of the article and the page not found error occurs.

What gives? Can anyone explain this? I just started having this problem.

We cannot help without a link to the blog, starting with http.

We need a link to the blog please, and what browser and browser version are you using?

Have you tried logging out of wordpress, clearing your browser cache and cookies, restarting your browser and then trying again?

Yes, I tried all of that. The blog site is http://www.nevadacounty.com. Just updated to WP 2.8.4

If you look at my blog today, you will see the fourth paragraph has the word from missing. Here’s what it looks like “Draft Horses Western United States will be competing throughout the four day event for close to $40,000 in prize money”

Note after Draft Horses ____Western — There should be the word from there but it gives me the page not found error when I try to save and preview.

You’re in the wrong forum – see the Stickies up top.

What do you mean the wrong forum?

http://www.nevadacounty.com/ is a self-hosted wordpress blog using the software from wordpress.ORG. There is a considerable difference between what you are using and what is used here at the wordpress.COM hosting service.

Here at wordpress.COM, all junk “Word” code is automatically stripped out of anything pasted from MS Word. With the self-hosted software, that is not the case. The editor here and the editor you are using are configured differently.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently and our answers typically will not work for you.

If you do not know the difference, see this support document for the differences: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .

OK, thanks, but the word from, typed in on WordPress, on three different computers, is not a junk word. I’ll go to wordpress.org

MS Word does not speak web. It is a word processor made for print media. It has, and probably always will cause issues on the web.

Pasting from Word to notepad and then to the wordpress editor typically works fairly well, but it is not an absolute.

There is a “paste from word” icon on the lower tool bar in the visual editor, and that should always be used when pasting from MS Word. It will, or should, strip out all offending “junk” MS Word code that will mess things up. Again though, it is not a foolproof thing and sometimes it can miss some stuff.

The problem you are having is likely not at all related to copying and pasting, but some other setting perhaps on the web host side of things, or even perhaps a corrupted file somewhere in your wordpress installation.

Have you run a virus check on your directory at your web host? You can do it from the cPanel, if your account has cPanel active.

Thanks, I’ll try all of the above
